BBC WRITERS ROOM: LONDON VOICES 2023

Isabella was selected to be part of the BBC writers room London Voices cohort for 2023. During this time she developed a treatment for her original script ‘FAKE LOVE’ which is set in a London strip club.

FAKE LOVE takes an episodic look at life working in a London club and each episode follows a different character. The series is peppered with Magical Realism and looks where the imagination and reality merge together.

SEVEN SISTERS

SEVEN SISTERS tells the story of Juliet, a seventeen-year-old girl from South-East London who is struggling with PTSD following a sexual assault. Unable to receive therapy on the NHS due to long waiting lists Juliet seeks out an ‘alternative’ form of therapy which takes her on a surreal journey into the darkest recesses of her psyche.

‘WHAT’S GOOD?’ is a teen drama about a multicultural group
of 16-year-old friends, all different genders, class and race, hailing from Croydon.

A British EUPHORIA meets ROCKS, ’WHAT’S GOOD?’ is written by a group of multicultural young writers who have their own story to tell. Authentic, vibrant, and inspired by lived experiences, it shows London through the eyes of young people, tackling important issues of today, through the chaotic minds of sixteen-year-olds who are experiencing everything for the first time.

Isabella Culver was part of the second writers room to develop new TV show headed by Ashely Walters and his production company SLNda. The development of the pilot and series outline was commissioned by Channel 4 and led by Vertigo Films.

Shirley Mason is a young woman of uncertain identity – buffeted by the expectations of family and church in the American town of her childhood.

Later, as an art student in New York, she feels her personality disintegrating, and a psychiatrist takes a keen interest. Dr. Cornelia B Wilbur may have stumbled upon a landmark case to make her reputation.

As the two women’s lives become entwined, lines blur between psychiatry and art, case studies and tall stories, real hurt, and false memory.

Inspired by the real-life case of a woman diagnosed as having 16 personalities. This premiere production is an American tale spanning the decades up to the 1970s, with questions for us all about where our true selves reside.

FLORIDA SNOW

A coming-of-age tale that follows a family living below the poverty line in Daytona Beach, FL. With the arrival of their English, cousin two cultures collide, and the children realize that even though oceans separate them they have more in common than they think.

Benefitting from energy and gusto is rarely seen on stage this play bears a likeness to ‘Jerusalem’, but is set in Southern America. It has a carnal brilliance and depicts how young people connect with nature in the modern world. Florida Snow is an autobiographical tale based on the writer’s own experiences living in Florida.
